U2 3D

This film was directed by Catherine Owens and Mark Pellington. This was a first for me seeing a 3D movie and also a full blown concert on the big screen. I was really impressed with the 3D effects. They give you plastic glasses at the theater and the film is blurry without them but when you put them on it really seemed like you could reach out and touch what came out of the screen. I saw this movie at a United Artist theater and unfortunately I don't believe every theater will show the film since it is a 3D concert. But I think if you get the chance to see a genuine 3D concert or movie you should as long you won't be to jumpy from the effects because it was like being on a roller coaster not knowing what was going to happen next. But anyhow this movie showed the talented U2 playing music, one of my more favorable bands. The film is from the Vertigo tour and it was shot at 7 different shows and the production of this film used the most 3D cameras ever used for one project. Since it seemed like I was on the stage with Bono at the end of the show I got up and yelled thank you and goodnight Ryan has left the building. No just kidding, but anyways I am sure you have heard of U2 so if you like there music I think you would like the 3D concert. I also think in general 3D films can be a blast because they are more interactive.

Fools Gold

This movie was directed by Andy Tennant and was an adventure, comedy, romance, thriller movie. The movie stars Matthew McConaughey (Benjamin Finnegan), Kate Hudson (Tess Finnegan), Donald Sutherland (Nigel Honeycutt) and some other good actors. The movie is about a lost treasure from long ago in the Caribbean and the divorced couple Tess and Benjamin who end up meeting up with each other and decide to find it with the millionaire Nigel Honeycutt but like in most treasure movies their is others who are out for the riches themselves. I liked this movie for the most part because it had nice scenes from Australia where it was mostly shot because of the threat of hurricanes in the Caribbean. This movie was a nice change for a short while since I live around snow for a good part of the year. But anyhow although the movie seemed liked I could probably guess what might happen in this Hollywood movie it was good because the main characters are likable and it was interesting to see what trouble Ben Finnegan was going to get into. I also thought that the movie was pretty adventurous from start to finish and who wouldn't like the idea of treasure hunting in a tropical place so I thought it was a good movie.

The Spiderwick Chronicles

This movie was directed by Mark Waters and stars Freddie Highmore (Jared Grace/Simon Grace), Sarah Bolger (Mallory Grace), Mary-Louise Parker ( Helen Grace) and others. The movie is a drama, fantasy, thriller and family movie. The movie is pretty simple to understand which is that Helen Grace and her three children move into the Spiderwick estate and find that there is a fairytale type of world with different creatures existing at their property. The Spiderwick estate has some interesting history left to the Graces from their uncle Arthur Spiderwick. This movie was a little strange and I thought it was kind of a similar story to Harry Potter and Narnia. But anyhow if you like fantasy type movies I am sure you will like this movie like I did because I think it was made with a lot of creativity, some of the characters were a riot and because it was kind of fun to see what kind of adventure was going to happen to the Grace family and the fairy tale characters. Perhaps someday they will combine Harry Potter, Spiderwick and other movies together, which might be pretty funny because I bet everyone would be magically transforming into each others character perhaps and so forth.

The Mist

This movie was directed by Frank Darabont and was originally a novel by Stephen King. The movie is a drama, sci fi, horror, thriller starring Thomas Jane (Dave Drayton), Marcia Gay Harden (Mrs. Carmody), Laurie Holden (Amanda Dunfrey) and others. The movie is about a strange storm that unleashes a bad force in the mist among people hiding in a small town and I had thought my weather forecast was bad. The movie did not change scenes a lot and I thought some of the characters actions were to hard to believe even in a fictional movie. I also think that the antagonist and the mist seemed pretty far fetched to make a scary movie. This movie was not close to being a favorite for me but if you like a lot of gorey horror, a fairly simple idea for a movie, drama among characters and suspenseful scenes you might like this movie.

Rambo

Rambo was directed by and stars Sylvester Stallone as Rambo and this famous movie is an action, thriller. The movie also stars Julie Benz (Sarah), Matthew Marsden (School Boy), Graham McTavish (Lewis) and others. This Rambo movie is of course about the bad boy Rambo kicking some butts in Thailand with a group of mercenaries to help a group of rescue aid workers that were taken by the corrupt military in Burma. The movie had action scenes with the powerful weapons and I think this movie has just about every kind of violence in the scenes you could imagine. I thought the movie was also lacking a bit of humor and that the story line does not keep you on the edge. But I also thought that it was a pretty good way to end the Rambo series of movies because I do think this will probably be the last one and that the interaction between the characters made the story a little interesting. So I would say if you're looking for basic action from a Hollywood movie and a simple enough story you will probably like Rambo.
