Juno

This movie was directed by Jason Reitman and is a comedy, drama that stars Ellen Page (Juno MacGuff), Michael Cera (Paulie Bleeker), Jennifer Garner (Vanessa Loring), Jason Bateman (Mark Loring) and others. The movie is about the rather interesting character Juno becoming pregnant at 16 and she is of course in high school. I think the movie itself perhaps reflects meaning to the viewers but I don't know how much the characters in the movie at certain points learn more important meanings for their lives, which is kind of sad. But anyhow I thought the movie was kind of cute in it's own way and the story was good enough that I became more interested in the drama, so overall I thought it was pretty good.

Cloverfield

This movie was directed by Matt Reeves and is an action, thriller, sci fi movie starring some less familiar actors to me such as Lizzy Caplan (Marlena Diamond), Jessica Lucas (Lily Ford), T.J. Miller (Hud Platt), Michael Stahl-David (Rob Hawkins) and some others. The movie is kind of simple, a monster attacks New York City and the story unfolds among a small group of people with a video camera. Unfortunately the Cloverfield monster was hard to please, I mean all King Kong seemed to want was a girlfriend. But anyhow the movie itself has the perspective of a regular video camera so the picture is shaky, which I thought kind of got old after a while. It seemed to me that the movie needed more elements such as information about the monster and more of an ending. The movie was a lot like Godzilla through one characters own video camera. But anyhow it was kind of fun wondering what was going to happen with the monster and characters, which probably made the ticket worthwhile enough but I don't think I would brag to much about Cloverfield.

The Bucket List

This movie was directed by Rob Reiner and is an action, drama, adventure movie starring Jack Nicholson (Edward Cole), Morgan Freeman (Carter Chambers), Sean Hayes (Thomas) and others. The point of the movie is that two men the very wealthy Edward and the mechanic Carter know they have now more then a year to live so they leave a hospital to spend the rest of their time out achieving some life goals, which they call the bucket list. I thought the movie was well written with life meanings being found in the characters and there were different interesting facts of knowledge the characters talked about. I also thought the movie was good because it seemed to take on enough different directions at different times in relation to the drama and plot making the story interesting to watch. So I think although this movie was a bit on the sad side it has a good story in a lot of ways that makes for a drama movie worth watching.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Sweeney Todd is directed by Tim Burton and I think this movie was typical of Burton's work because previous films like Sleepy Hollow and The Nightmare Before Christmas. The movie was a crime, musical thriller starring Johnny Depp (Sweeney Todd), Helena Bonham Carter (Mrs. Lovett), Alan Rickman (Judge Turpin) and others. The movie is about Sweeney Todd a.k.a Benjamin Barker returning to London since he was sent away by Judge Turpin. Sweeney opens a barber shop above Mrs. Lovett's Meat Pie Shop and he tries to do away with people he dislikes. I did not know the movie was a musical just from the preview or also a Broadway musical at one point for that matter. I think since it was a musical you have to pay closer attention to the words and also because the plot involves many characters to follow making the story more complicated. The scenes were kind of neat to look at because the movie is set back a long time ago on the streets of London but I also thought they could have had more scenes outside of the barbershop. The movie was dark in nature and somewhat gorey. I am glad they made a famous Broadway story into a movie for people to see. I found that I was not sure who's side I was on in the story, which made it kind of interesting. But anyhow I don't think this would be my top pick for movies besides being a movie title that is fun to say, which I pronounced a couple of time accidentally as Sweeney Toad. However I think if you like previous Johnny Depp movies like Edward Scissorhands you will probably enjoy this twisted film about the disturbed barber.
